Chess: Getting to Know Chess

Students who play chess often perform better academically than those who don’t. The game of chess teaches critical thinking skills, patience and planning. Chess improves memory and exercises the brain and evidence supports that chess raises a child’s IQ!  This makes chess a wonderful game to include in the school or home classroom.

This video gives students an introduction to the game.  With child-friendly animation, students learn that the game originated in India and has been played for over a thousand years. The video explains that chess is art, science and sport and teaches strategy. The video characters inform viewers that Kids Academy has a chess class and they go to the academy to check it out!

Chess requires wit, will and imagination and is a game that many children will enjoy. At the end of the video our characters explain to students what the next video in the lesson series will be about.
