Tricky Problems Part 1

Many young students find that solving word problems is tricky. This is because the math problem is presented in text form. Students need to be able to read the language, understand what operation is to be performed and also complete the calculation to find the answer.

This video teaches students to solve a word problem that has multiple steps. First, the teacher tells the students to read the word problem to understand what is happening in the number story. Then she instructs the students to read the number story again to figure out what to do to solve the problem.

This word problem is more challenging because two different operations are required to complete the worksheet. Students need to add and subtract to find the answer. The students then work to solve the problem and find the correct equation written two different ways.

This math worksheet with a word problem is tricky, but with practice students learn to solve a multi-step math problem.
