In this lesson, students will preview an interactive fraction number line and click the markers on the number line to learn about fractions. Next, students will follow a step-by-step tutorial in the DIY (do-it-yourself) module to create their own version of the project they just previewed. They will customize their project and make each pin Actor on the number line say its corresponding fraction. If students finish early, ask them to look at the bonus section in step 5/5 of the tutorial, which encourages students to experiment with their code and program the pin Actors to do something different when selected.
After completing the DIY module, students will be asked 5 quiz questions involving fractions. By the end of the lesson, students will have experimented with coding concepts (e.g., events, text handling, basic math, input/output) while reinforcing different points on a fraction number line.
