First, ask your little ones if they can tell you your mayor’s name, or the name of the governor of your state. A mayor is the leader of a city, and a governor is the leader of a state. Now, help your kids read the descriptions out loud, and check whether the words are describing a mayor or a governor.

The state government in charge of all matters concerning the state, while the city government takes matters of the city into its hands. This means that the city government is more or less under the state government. And, each department has a special job. Ask your kids if they know some local government departments and what they do there. Then, look at the picture with them and help them check the box next to the correct department.
