Punctuation: Question and Quotation Marks

A punctuation skill that is sometimes tricky is knowing whether a question mark goes inside quotation marks or outside the quotation marks in a sentence. Kids Academy’s video helps clear up any confusion your students may encounter.

In the video, the teacher first explains the punctuation rule.  Students learn that the question mark goes inside the quotation marks if the quotation is a question.  The other rule states that the question mark goes outside the quotation marks if the whole sentence is a question but the words inside the quotation marks are NOT a question. This is confusing to many young learners and the worksheet provides practice examples that the teacher then explains.  Students look at a pair of sentences and then choose the one that has the correct punctuation.

The worksheet has a fun pirate theme that helps keep learners engaged when learning about punctuation. The use of the whiteboard allows the teacher to clearly indicate the parts of the sentence that he is working on and makes a better understanding of the skill being taught. Learning punctuation is fun with this video!
