Teaching students to add is easy with this video from Kids Academy. Many strategies exist to help students learn to add accurately and this video illustrates two ways for young learners to learn addition.
The worksheet has four addition problems. Students add and then circle the correct answer. The video teacher demonstrates two strategies to find the answer. The first strategy is to draw a T chart and plug the additives into the chart, being careful to put the correct numeral in the ones place and the tens place. Students then add the numbers on the chart to find the answer.
The other strategy is using the same T chart, but now using a picture representation for each number. For example, the first additive is 61. The teacher draws one dot in the ones place on the chart, and six tally columns in the tens place (each column represents 10). The teacher completes the chart with pictures representing the other additive. Now the student adds the number of ones and tens to find the answer.
