In this lesson, students will analyze information from a given source while answering 3 different questions about information from a newspaper. Next, students will use code blocks to create a drawing information project in the DIY module. Coding activities include resizing the newspaper Actor, using the “ask” block to ask a question, and using the “say” block to say whether the answer is correct or incorrect. Students are provided the necessary visual assets (backgrounds, costumes, Actors) and code blocks in the DIY module.
After completing the DIY module, students will be asked 5 quiz questions about drawing information from newspapers. By the end of the lesson, students will have experimented with coding concepts (e.g., simple events, resize actor, input/output, conditionals) while drawing information from a newspaper. If students finish early, encourage them to open their Drawing Information DIY project (from the “Drawing Information” module) and have a neighbor take their quiz. Were some questions trickier than others?
