Before you begin this worksheet, ask your child if they can point at each square and mention the chess piece that is supposed to be there. If they can’t, this printout will be a lot of help to you. Tell your child that each queen of both sides starts the game on the square of its own color. Then, ask them to check the correct answers of the pieces starting the game on the marked squares.

Required skills:
Students should know the proper names of the chess pieces and be able to identify their corresponding squares on the chessboard. They should also know the correct way to set up the board, which includes placing the queen pieces on their respective color squares.
