Almost everyone uses Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and now TikTok as a way to communicate with friends and even strangers. There is an age restriction with using these applications, nevertheless, it is easy for anyone to forge their age. Nearly all social media applications require their users to be at least 13 years old – this can be found under the applications’ Terms and Conditions. Age restrictions exist because COPPA law or Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act states that any organizations or people operating online services (including social media services) are not allowed to gather the personal data of anyone under the age of 13 without parental permission.
