Celebrate Independence Day with Kids Academy!

June 26, 2023

To celebrate this historic moment and to reflect upon the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, citizens recognize the 4th of July as a national and federal holiday. Usually we spend this time with family and friends outdoors, congregating at cookouts, engaging in festive activities and watching dazzling firework displays in cities across the nation.

Our youngest children need an easy-to-understand primer on Independence Day, how it came to be, and the important documents our nation’s government is based upon. Now is the perfect opportunity to help them understand this connection and reinforce previously learned information.

This 4th of July, before hitting the pool and lighting the grill, share the following activities with your little learners to help them gain better knowledge of this special summer holiday.

This video starts with the basic question: “Why do we celebrate the 4th of July?” It explains what independence means and why the colonists wanted to break away from British rule. It goes on to explain the important founding documents and how our nation was born.

How is the Declaration of Independence different from the Constitution or the Bill of Rights? What freedoms do we enjoy today because of these documents? The video below will quiz your child’s knowledge of important terms related to America’s founding documents. Encourage kids to answer the questions before watching an in-depth explanation of the answers to expand their understanding.
