In this lesson, students will play a division game and solve division word problems. Next, students will follow a step-by-step tutorial in the DIY (do-it-yourself) module to create their own version of the quiz game they just played. They will create their own division questions, customize the background and Actors, create a story that involves dividing an amount of items, and program Actors to move around the Stage. If students finish early, ask them to look at step 7/8 of the tutorial, which encourages students to expand on their story by using “say” and “broadcast” code blocks. After completing the DIY module, students will be asked 5 quiz questions involving division word problems. By the end of the lesson, students will have experimented with coding concepts (e.g., input/output, messaging, motion, conditionals, costume handling, basic math) while reinforcing division problems.
