In this lesson, students will play a Rounding Roundup game and solve rounding problems to help the pig Actor "round up" farm dogs. Next, students will follow a step-by-step tutorial in the DIY (do-it-yourself) module to create their own version of the Rounding Roundup game they just played. They will program the pig Actor to move, label the dog Actors, and create their own rounding questions. If students finish early, ask them to look at the bonus section in step 5/6 of the tutorial, which encourages students to create new questions that involve rounding to the nearest hundred or thousand and changing the labels of the dogs to make the questions more challenging.
After completing the DIY module, students will be asked 5 quiz questions that involve rounding numbers to the nearest ten. By the end of the lesson, students will have experimented with coding concepts (e.g., loops, conditionals, motion, text handling, input/output) while creating a math rounding game.
