The Pre-K English Language Arts curriculum focuses on building upon emerging print and phonological awareness. Working incrementally from distinguishing basic features of print, students will end the unit recognizing high frequency words from their environment.

Specifically, students will work towards:

• Learning basic attributes of the written word, like the meaning of spaces between words
• Recognizing upper and lowercase letters
• Understanding the difference between letters and numerals
• Form an early understanding of words, syllables, and sounds
• Exploring sounds in words
• Setting a purpose for reading
